Unclaimed Property Updates

Effective July 1, 2019, the Louisiana State Treasurer’s Office no longer accepts printed submissions of unclaimed property. This is to protect the security and privacy of individuals where personal identification information is included in the paper transmissions.

Anyone holding unclaimed property is required to submit an electronic report in NAUPA II standard file layout and upload it through the secure portal on the LA Treasurer’s website. Visit the Unclaimed Property Website to file a report and/or submit a payment via the secure portal. You will also find reporting requirements for reporting unclaimed property.

Another important change that became effective July 1, 2019 states that the “Louisiana Unclaimed Property Act provides for the presumption of abandonment and transfer to the Unclaimed Property Division, ‘Military medals and all associated documents held in a safe deposit box or other safekeeping depository in this state.’ Please see Louisiana Revised Statutes, Title 9, Section 155.”
