Manager, Client Accounting Services

lsherman@fw-cpa.com

Lauren Sherman advises Louisiana municipal agencies and government entities as an outsourced business manager/CFO, or as a partner to their internal teams. As a manager in Faulk & Winkler’s Client Accounting Services (CAS) team, Lauren supervises the firm’s services for public school systems, districts, and school boards.

For municipal government clients, Lauren provides guidance on budgeting, monthly reporting, closeout, and annual audit preparation. She also manages compliance and reporting, presents at public council and board meetings, and advises on internal controls. Many of her clients are from small parishes with limited staffing resources, so Lauren is adept at developing programs that fill gaps and accommodate all budgets and skill-sets.

Based on her deep familiarity of state and federal regulations governing school board finance, Lauren serves as a tremendous asset to clients in audit preparation and common findings of the Louisiana Legislative Auditor (LLA). She has particularly deep capabilities managing School Activity Funds (SAFs) and other funding activities for which school boards and districts must account and report. Over the summer, Lauren’s team works with clients to review and update policies and procedures and provide hands-on training to leadership and staff at the district and school levels. Lauren presents financials at school board meetings,

Whether interfacing with office staff, principals, superintendents, and school boards, or police officers, firefighters, and city councils, Lauren paints a picture of how all aspects of their operation fit under one financial umbrella.

Prior to joining Faulk & Winkler in 2015, Lauren oversaw financial reporting for multifamily properties for a local property management company. She has more than 15 years of accounting experience.

When she’s not working, Lauren can be found traveling the state with her sons’ football and baseball teams. A nature lover, you can find her outside fishing, camping, hiking, and gardening. When the sports schedule allows, her family loves to hit the road and visit new places.

“I value my clients as much as they value me. It’s important to me that when clients call, they know they’ll talk to me. We don’t want to only close out the books, we want to be financial partners year-round, so clients feel confident in their numbers and processes and there are no surprises. I like to learn something new every day and with my government clients, no two days are ever the same.”
